Alna, ME — July 31 — Newcastle Fire Company firemen battled a building fire in Damariscotta while the Alna Volunteer Fire Department supplied station coverage in Newcastle. While local crews were attending to the situation, Alna dispatched a pumper-tanker to stay ready for emergency calls and assist in maintaining fire protection in Newcastle. Alna was given the standby assignment by Engineer 6 of the Wiscasset Fire Department.
While firefighters worked at the Damariscotta location, the coverage persisted for several hours. The assignment illustrated the value of regional collaboration and mutual aid in sustaining emergency response coverage when a department's staff and equipment are dedicated to a working crisis.
