Five Firefighters Injured at Four-Alarm Bronx Fire.

More than 200 FDNY fire and EMS personnel operated at a four-alarm fire at 2666 and 2664 Briggs Avenue in the Bronx, New York, after flames spread between two occupied wood-frame homes. Initial fire-service reporting lists the incident as July 15, 2026, although other news reports date it July 16.

First-due companies encountered a heavy basement fire at 2666 Briggs Avenue that had extended upward and through a basement window to the neighboring residence at 2664 Briggs Avenue. Engine and truck companies stretched handlines into the buildings while conducting searches and working to cut off the advancing fire.

As conditions deteriorated, the incident escalated to a fourth alarm. Operations were complicated by extreme summer heat, with FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Tim Keenan noting the physical demands placed on members working in full PPE during the heat wave.

Five firefighters were injured, including two with serious injuries and three with minor injuries. No civilian injuries were reported. The Department of Buildings issued full vacate orders for both properties, while the American Red Cross provided assistance to six households totaling 13 adults and four children.

The fire was placed under control shortly before 10 a.m. The cause remained under investigation by FDNY Fire Marshals
