On July 15, at 7:57 a.m., the FDNY responded to a reported fire at 2666 Briggs Ave. The fire spread to the nearby house at 2664 Briggs Ave., according to other 911 reports.

When firefighters arrived, they discovered a large basement fire that had extended onto several storeys and up the outside of both occupied wood-frame residences. While truck companies combed the upper levels, crews extended handlines into the basements.

As firefighters battled to contain the fire and stop it from spreading to nearby residences, the incident was elevated to a fourth alarm. Over 200 EMS and firefighters responded.

Two of the five firefighters were seriously hurt. Just before ten in the morning, the fire was contained. The FDNY Fire Marshals are still looking into the cause.
