A reported duct fire at 520 Madison Ave., a 43-story commercial skyscraper, prompted the FDNY to arrive at around 7 a.m. on July 17.

When firefighters arrived in less than four minutes, they discovered that the fire had started at a nearby restaurant at 22 E. 54th St., with ductwork spreading into the business structure. More than 90 fire and EMS units, together with over 220 people, were dispatched to the location when the incident was elevated to a third alarm.

Due to smoke conditions, firefighters searched the whole building and collaborated with building staff to evacuate over 200 inhabitants. EMS transported one of the five individuals who had minor injuries.

The cause is still being looked into.
