BURLINGTON, Vt., July 30, 2025 – The Burlington Fire Department paused to honor the legacy of Lieutenant Steve “Vinny” Costello, who passed away in 2010. Fifteen years later, his influence continues to be felt by his family, fellow firefighters, and the Burlington community.

Steve was more than a firefighter—he was a leader, mentor, friend, and cornerstone of the Burlington Fire Department. His dedication to service, calm under pressure, and unwavering compassion for others made him a truly remarkable man.

Even years later, his impact was evident: stories about him were still shared at the firehouse, lessons he taught continued to guide those he mentored, and the memory of his quiet strength inspired everyone who knew him.

The department expressed gratitude to his family for sharing Steve with the community. His service, leadership, and sacrifice remain remembered and honored.
