VERGENNES, Vt., Aug. 14, 2025 – Main Street in Vergennes has reopened after a car accident triggered a chain reaction, backing up traffic in all directions. The incident was one of three crashes in Vergennes, Vermont, that the City of Vergennes Fire Department handled simultaneously.
While crews cleared the Main Street accident, emergency responders were also dispatched to two additional crashes — one on Route 7 in Vergennes and another at New Haven Road. These back-to-back calls created heavy traffic congestion across the city.
The Vergennes Fire Department thanked its members and partner agencies for their work managing the Main Street Vergennes crash, the Route 7 accident, and the New Haven Road crash, as well as for assisting with traffic control and providing on-scene support during a hectic day.
