LATHAM, NY - On July 25th at 11:02 A.M., the Latham Fire Department, Maplewood Fire Department, and Boght Community Fire Co. were dispatched to Alternate Route 7 westbound for a reported rollover MVA with entrapment. The first arriving chief from Maplewood arrived on scene to update incoming units that there was extrication needed, with two people trapped inside the vehicle.
As units were investigating they learned that one of the vehicles went across the median into oncoming traffic and rolled their vehicle up onto a guardrail. Engine 322, Rescue 4, and Rescue 1 arrived on scene and immediately began extrication of the entrapped occupants. Due to the extent of entrapment, it took firefighters approximately 25 minutes to safely extricate the victims from the vehicle.
All patients were transported by Colonie EMS to a local hospital. Firefighters remained on scene for an extended period of time to assure that there were no fluid leaks from the vehicles. The lanes of traffic that were closed opened back up a short time later.
