Vehicle Emergency and Fuel Spill Mitigated on Route 17

Hasbrouck Heights, NJ - The Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department responded to an incident involving a family stranded in a vehicle on Route 17 South. Upon arrival, crews located the vehicle and confirmed a gasoline leak that was entering a nearby storm drain, creating both a safety and environmental hazard.


Firefighters worked to secure the scene, assist the occupants, and control the spill while preventing further spread. Bergen County Hazmat units also responded to support containment and cleanup operations.


This incident highlights the dangers of driving through flooded roadways, where hidden hazards can lead to vehicle damage and unsafe conditions.
