Hillside Firefighters Responded to Two-Vehicle MVA on Liberty Avenue

Hillside, N.J. — September 19 — Hillside Fire Department responded with four crews to a motor vehicle accident that occurred around 10 p.m.at the intersection of Liberty Avenue and Hillside Avenue.

Engine 1 and Rescue units were sent to the scene of a two-vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, firefighters found two vehicles involved, with one of them coming to rest on the sidewalk and positioned over a decorative wall.

Firefighters from Engine 1 secured the vehicle and turned off its power to ensure the scene was safe for both patients and responders.

Rescue personnel assessed two patients at the scene. One patient was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. No additional patient details were shared.

This response highlighted the various responsibilities handled by Hillside firefighters, who provided fire suppression, rescue and emergency medical support throughout the township. The Hillside Fire Department also received support from the Hillside Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association, Local 35, which represents the department's career firefighters.

The department has also reported more than 5,000 emergency calls in 2025, including medical emergencies, fires and mutual-aid incidents.

These calls included events on major highways such as Route 22, Route 78 and the Garden State Parkway. The crash on September 19 was resolved after the patient was transported and the vehicles were secured.
