Two Residents Injured, Two Pets Killed in New Britain House Fire

New Britain, Conn. — Aug. 12 — Two residents were injured and two pets died after an early-morning fire broke out at a home on Dennis Drive.
New Britain firefighters responded at approximately 4:07 a.m. and found a fire that had originated in the breezeway of the single-family home. The flames extended into the attached garage and residence as crews worked to bring the fire under control.
Three occupants had evacuated the home by the time firefighters arrived, according to New Britain Assistant Fire Chief Peter Towey. Two residents were injured and transported to an area hospital. Their conditions were not immediately released.
Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately an hour before bringing it under control. No firefighters were injured during the response.
Initial reports indicated that a dog died in the fire. Later reporting from NBC Connecticut stated that both a dog and a cat were killed.
The fire caused significant damage to the residence. The cause remained under investigation following the incident, and officials had not announced what sparked the fire.
