Trumbull, CT - Firefighters from the Long Hill Volunteer Fire Company quickly suppressed a hazardous bedroom fire involving an actively burning lithium-ion battery pack Sunday afternoon, halting fire spread during an intense shift marked by high-volume storm response.

Emergency units from Long Hill were dispatched on the afternoon of Sunday, September 27, 2026, to a reported residential structure fire with potential lithium-ion battery involvement. Assistance was immediately coordinated with the Trumbull Center and Nichols Fire Departments to ensure adequate resources were on hand for hazardous materials suppression and thermal monitoring.

Upon making entry, interior crews encountered an active fire stemming directly from a compromised lithium-ion battery pack inside a bedroom. Firefighters executed an aggressive knockdown, extinguishing the burning pack and successfully containing the flames and thermal damage exclusively to the battery and the room of origin.

Crews conducted an extensive post-fire inspection and monitoring operation to verify the battery was fully stabilized and free of off-gassing or thermal runaway hazards.

The afternoon call capped an exceptionally busy operational period for Long Hill volunteers, who responded to 18 emergency calls for service throughout the weather system, including deploying earlier that morning to provide mutual aid at a working house fire with the neighboring Easton Fire Department.
