Troy Detectives Arrested A Troy Man Allegedly Involved In A 4th Street Shooting

On August 8, 2023 in the evening hours Troy Police officers arrested 34 year old Pierre Townsend with the intentional shooting of a female victim in the area on 104 4th Street last Friday night. Police officers from the patrol units, evidence technicians, and detective bureau responded to the shooting on Friday night and began their investigation. Detectives and evidence technicians collected evidence at the scene which began to point in the correct direction for the investigators on scene. Additional information came in the following day helping detectives identify the suspect.


 
The suspect, and the vehicle occupied during the initial shooting, was observed in South Troy yesterday afternoon and detectives began following the vehicle and, with the assistance of uniformed patrol officers were able to conduct a traffic stop where the suspect was then taken into custody by police. The defendant, Pierre L. Townsend, aged 34 from Troy, was processed at our Central Station and held for arraignment in Troy City Court this morning. Subsequently, he was remanded to Rensselaer County Jail. The prosecution of this case will be overseen by the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office. Townsend faces charges of Attempted Murder – 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon – 2nd Degree.

The shooting suspect demonstrated a clear intention to harm the victim, showing no concern for the safety of bystanders on a bustling city street. Troy detectives are also making advancements in various other unrelated and ongoing investigations.
