On July 25th, during the height of a fast-moving summer storm, the Ashaway Volunteer Fire Association, Ladder 911 from the Hope Valley–Wyoming Fire District, and the Hopkinton Police Department were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire on Alexandra Court.
Engine 414 and Car 404 arrived first to find a large two-story home with no smoke or flames visible from the outside. Crews stretched a 1¾-inch hand line and began an interior investigation. The homeowner reported that lightning had struck the house, causing a refrigerator in the garage to begin smoking.
Firefighters quickly located and extinguished a small electrical fire, removed the damaged refrigerator, and conducted a thorough check for extension. Once the hazard was eliminated, ventilation was performed to clear the home of smoke.
Despite the heaviest downpours of the passing storm, all units operated efficiently, and the incident was brought under control within an hour. A strong, coordinated response by all agencies involved ensured the situation ended without further damage or injury.
