Escambia, FL - Escambia County Fire Rescue responded to a residential structure fire on North 48th Avenue, where Engine 17 arrived to find smoke coming from a single-story home and an active kitchen fire.

Three residents and two cats were inside when the fire started, but all safely evacuated without injury. Firefighters quickly attacked the fire and had it extinguished within minutes, limiting the damage primarily to the kitchen.

The cause-and-origin investigation determined that unattended stovetop cooking caused the fire. The American Red Cross assisted the residents, and the home remained suitable for reoccupancy after necessary kitchen repairs.
