Providence Canteen Provides Mutual Aid at Second-Alarm Rehoboth House Fire

Rehoboth, Mass. — Aug. 4 — Canteen 1 of the Special Signal Fire Association/Providence Canteen provided mutual aid during a second-alarm house fire at 477 Fairview Ave. that drew firefighters from several area departments.
Rehoboth firefighters were dispatched shortly after 6:45 a.m. for a reported structure fire. First responders encountered the residence fully engulfed in flames, prompting a response that brought additional firefighters and resources to the scene. The fire ultimately destroyed the home.
Canteen 1 responded from Rhode Island to provide rehabilitation services, including hydration, food and logistical support for emergency personnel working at the scene. The Special Signal Fire Association operates the Providence Canteen as an all-volunteer organization providing rehabilitation and support to first responders during fires and other emergencies.
Firefighters from Rehoboth and surrounding communities worked to extinguish the blaze. Despite the extent of the fire, no injuries were reported.
The response demonstrated the role mutual-aid departments and specialized rehabilitation units can play during major incidents, providing additional personnel and support while firefighters carry out extended operations.
