Holyoke, MA. — July 21 — A reported basement fire prompted the Holyoke Fire Department to respond to 5 Cottage Ave. about midnight. The three-story wood-frame house was emitting a lot of smoke, according to the crews. Firefighters attacked the interior, but the fire had spread from the basement to the third level and into the walls.

There was a second alert for more personnel. Units were freed when the fire was deemed under control. There were no reported injuries. Red Cross aid was provided to seven evacuated residents. The departments of mutual aid, Holyoke Police, Cataldo Ambulance, and HG&E provided assistance.
