Technical Rescue Safely Removes Injured Patient from Empty Pool

Altoona, PA - The Altoona Fire Fighters IAFF Local 299 responded to a reported rescue in the 100 block of North 14th Avenue, where crews arrived to find a patient who had fallen approximately 8–10 feet into an empty swimming pool and sustained injuries.
Firefighters quickly assessed the situation and, working alongside AMED, packaged the patient into a Stokes basket to facilitate a safe and controlled extrication from the confined space.
Once removed from the pool, the patient was transferred to EMS personnel and transported to the UPMC Altoona Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.
