Downingtown, Pa. — July 5 — After a lightning strike damaged a home in the 1100 block of E. Reeceville Road, the East Brandywine Fire Company and mutual aid departments responded to a reported house fire. Before firefighters arrived, occupants safely departed. Fourteen volunteers from Engine 49-1, Ladder 49, and Rescue 49 responded. While looking into light smoke and an electrical smell inside the house, crews extended a precautionary handline.
Firefighters secured the hazard after identifying a lightning-damaged electrical outlet in the basement as the source of the issue. Mutual help units may be called back because there was no evidence of a fire extension. The reaction showed how crucial it is to conduct in-depth investigations after lightning-related emergency calls.
