Engine 49-5 Supported Mutual Aid Brush Fire Response

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Downingtown, Pa. — July 2 — At a brush fire in the 100 block of Pratts Dam Road in West Brandywine Township, the East Brandywine Fire Company responded with Engine 49-5 and six firefighters to help the Wagontown Fire Company. The first teams requested more water after seeing a sizable mound of smoldering rubbish and other spot fires that were spreading into the surrounding foliage.

While firefighters used handlines to limit the fire, Engine 49-5 provided Tanker 35 with a continuous supply of water. In addition to protecting surrounding property and preventing additional fire spread, the coordinated mutual aid response showed the need of regional cooperation during brush fire and water delivery operations.
