Afternoon House Fire In Dumont

Dumont firefighters were dispatched to 171 Lafayette Ave, around 2:27pm, for reported smoke in the residence. Chief Abdulla arrived on scene to smoke showing from the front of the home and transmitted a working fire. Engine 4 arrived first on scene, established a supply line, and stretched an attack line though the front door. Engine 3, Rescue 3 and Haworth Truck arrived shortly after and assisted with primary searches, laddering the home and with an interior attack on the fire. Interior crews reported heavy fire on the first floor with extension to the second floor. Command transmitted the second alarm bringing Bergenfield, Cresskill, and Tenafly to the scene. Interior crews reported fire on the first floor was knocked down, as a second line was stretched to the second floor. Bergenfield firefighters took to the roof and cut a vent hole while other firefighters vented windows on the second floor. It took crews 30 minutes to extinguish the fire and check for further extension. No injuries were reported, however two animals were rescued from the home. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
