RARITAN, N.J. — July 3 — When a brush fire was reported, firemen from the Raritan Borough Fire Department, located at 611 N. Thompson St., responded and put it out before it spread to surrounding vegetation. Before clearing the area, crews used hose lines and hand tools to stop the fire from spreading further, put out any hot patches that remained, and looked for any hidden flames.

The cause of the incident was not immediately disclosed, and neither property damage nor casualties were reported. In the summer, when dry conditions can raise the risk of brush and vegetation fires throughout the area, the incident demonstrated the department's preparedness to manage outdoor fire crises.
