Pittsburgh, Pa. — July 6 — After an overturned tractor-trailer leaked hazardous material close to the Sharpsburg side of the 62nd Street Bridge, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire, located at 2945 Railroad St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201, sent out its Hazardous Materials Team overnight to support the Etna Volunteer Fire Department. To confine the product, safely remove the remaining substance, and stop additional environmental damage, firefighters and hazmat specialists worked for several hours.

While cleanup efforts were ongoing, the 62nd Street Bridge remained closed in both directions. During complicated transportation incidents involving hazardous chemicals, the coordinated response proved the importance of regional mutual aid and specialist Hazmat services.
