This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Somerville, N.J. — July 16 — A reported generator fire in the back of a car prompted the Somerville Fire Department, located at 85 N. Gaston Avenue, Somerville, NJ 08876, to react. When firefighters arrived, they discovered that the owner had already put out the fire. An examination found that the generator's gas cap was unfastened, allowing gasoline to escape and catch fire.

Firefighters verified the location was safe, examined the generator, and used absorbent material to control the fuel spill. At the site, members of the rescue squad assessed the owner of the vehicle. The event made clear how crucial it is to check generators and secure fuel caps before moving or using equipment.
