STONY BROOK, N.Y. — July 6, 2026 — Firefighters and utility personnel responded to a brush fire involving downed high-voltage power lines in Stony Brook.

The Stony Brook Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 2:59 p.m., with Chiefs 31 and 32, Special Operations 5 and Engine 2 responding. Crews established a safety perimeter around the downed lines while PSEG Long Island technicians worked to secure the electrical hazard.

Once conditions were made safe, firefighters and utility personnel coordinated operations to bring the incident under control. No mutual-aid fire departments or injuries were identified in the available information.

The response served as a reminder of the hazards associated with downed electrical lines, which should always be treated as energized until utility personnel confirm otherwise.
