Mass Casualty Incident Declared at Freeport Home Depot

Long Beach, N.Y. — July 1 — When a hazardous materials incident occurred at the Home Depot in Freeport, the City of Long Beach New York Fire Department, located at 1 W. Chester St., arrived to help. As emergency personnel assessed several patients on the site, Ambulance 2321 and Assistant Chief Hadrick Ray were assigned to the response. When a mass casualty incident was reported, more ambulances and local emergency medical services were dispatched to assist with patient care and transportation.
A number of individuals were taken to nearby hospitals for additional assessment. Throughout the incident, firefighters, emergency medical services, and hazardous materials teams collaborated to secure the area, spot potential threats, and ensure safe operations.
