Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire on the Southern State Parkway near East Farmingdale, New York, on July 20, 2026, where first-arriving crews encountered a burning vehicle and began suppression operations. An independent traffic report also documented a vehicle fire blocking the right shoulder of the eastbound Southern State Parkway in Nassau County that day.
The East Farmingdale Volunteer Fire Company responded, with Engine 1-5-6 arriving first and stretching a handline to knock down the fire. Engine 1-5-7 joined the operation, with members using power saws to gain access to the engine compartment so crews could complete overhaul and check for remaining fire.
Two people were reportedly transported to an area hospital for evaluation. Second Assistant Chief Michael Kilbridge Jr. had command of the incident as crews completed operations along the busy parkway.
