This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Phillips, ME — July 7 — After Kingfield Fire Department was called to a reported explosion and structural fire at Carrabassett Veterinary Services on Main Street in Kingfield, Phillips Fire Department arrived on mutual aid. To limit the fire and safeguard surrounding properties, firefighters from other adjacent agencies collaborated. While one bystander got treatment for minor burns, all clinic employees, residents, and the majority of animals were successfully evacuated.

The Maine Office of the State Fire Marshal started looking into the cause after the structure was deemed a total loss. During large-scale disasters in rural western Maine, the reaction illustrated the value of regional mutual aid.
