On July 9, 2024, as companies battled a fire in Ayer in the neighboring town of Groton, a reported structure fire from a lightning strike was dispatched on Flavel Road. Companies arrived on scene with fire showing from a detached two bay garage and struck the working fire bringing in mutual aid to the scene and to cover. Companies had the fire knocked down in a short amount of time.
