It is thought that the city of Richmond, Va Fire Department was one of the first to experiment with motorcycles, When they placed 2 Harley Davidson cycles in service in 1920, Always looking to save money the idea of using motorcycles as a first responding apparatus started to gain momentum. Surveys showed that up to 80% of the routine fire calls could be handled by just 2 men with minimum equipment. They were so Successful the department countinued to build their fleet of cycles, At one time the city of Richmond had 12 cycles in their fleet. Other cities started to take notice and were considering utilizing this concept as well. This 1935 Harley Davidson was the last firecycle placed in service with the Richmond Fire Department. It is owned by the Herman Family of Chesterfield, Va. It was on display at the Pennsylvania Pump Primers muster in Harrisburg on July 11th
