Northeast Adams Crews Assisted in Remote Hiker Rescue

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

East Berlin, PA. — June 18 — On a mutual assistance assignment, Northeast Adams Fire & EMS went to Lower Chanceford Township to help rescue an injured hiker in a remote, forested region with steep terrain and little access. After obtaining scant information from the initial 911 call, responders found the patient close to a brook. Using a Stokes basket, firefighters, EMS personnel, Pennsylvania State Police, and technical rescue teams collaborated to stabilize, bundle, and transport the patient over a mile through mountainous terrain.

A medical helicopter was used to transport the patient. Under difficult circumstances, the reaction showed great interagency cooperation, technical rescue training, and efficient coordination.
