At 4:17 p.m. on July 9, as firemen were practicing at the station, the Hinesburg Fire Department responded to a car fire and promptly put it out.

Within five minutes, crews arrived to discover a pickup truck carrying a trailer with the engine compartment fully engaged. Before firemen started their suppression efforts, Hinesburg Police officers secured the route. During the initial attack, there was a tiny explosion, but the fire was successfully contained and kept from spreading by the firefighters.

The vehicle was deemed a total loss, although no injuries were reported. Instead of trying to retrieve personal goods, the agency advised drivers to get out of their cars right once, travel to a safe distance, and dial 911.
