During the month of June, our Public Educator Ms. Liz Graham hosted our first ever Safe Sitter program. It was so popular that we had a waitlist to host a second class. Safe Sitter® is for young teens in grades 6-8 who are ready to learn the skills they need to care for themselves and younger children. This age group has always been a challenge to reach at school because of their rigorous course schedule so having this program in the fire department not only allows us to follow a vetted curriculum but also incorporates fire safety for our teens! The course covered topics from diapering a baby, to child behavior management, first -aid, choking, CPR, cooking safety, personal safety and how to build a babysitting business. The class ran for two days from 9am to 4pm and students graduated with a certificate to use on their resume.
