Manatee County Fire Academy Beta Tests New NWCG Wildland S-130 Course

Manatee County, FL - The current S-130 class has not been updated since 2003.
Manatee County Fire Academy approached NWCG for permission to give the Basic Wildland Class online to the students from two recruit classes who need it to move on to Firefighter II. NWCG approved the method that the class was going to be given.
At this time the academy was closed and all classes were being given online. NWCG approached the academy and asked if they would give the new S-130, which is still in the review stages, which put the wheels in motion for the Beta class.
The academy used Zoom to present the class. Members of the S-130 cadre also attended online to monitor the new product. The two recruit classes will still be required to participate and pass a field day. The instructor will be able to give input to the cadre on the new purposed class.
Parrish Fire District assisted the academy with the field day by supplying a brush truck and manpower.
