Wilbraham, MA. — June 19 — Under the regional mutual aid system, Wilbraham Fire Department Engine 3 arrived in Springfield to help with a fifth-alarm building fire. As suppression operations proceeded, the crew collaborated with firemen from Springfield and neighboring agencies. In order to support prolonged firefighting activities and maintain coverage throughout the region, large multi-alarm occurrences require additional personnel, equipment, and relief units.
The significance of mutual aid agreements, which enable adjacent departments to pool resources during significant emergencies, was emphasized by Wilbraham's response. Through regional coordination, the department continued to provide emergency coverage for the Wilbraham community while Engine 3 was on the scene.
