Mastic N.Y.- On the evening of Sunday June 27th just before 6PM the Mastic Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire on Montauk Hwy off Roberts st . Chief of Department Rudy Rudy Sunderman and Assistant Chief Gene Martucci were the first to respond. On arrival Chief Sunderman found a involved auto in a parking lot extending to a fence. The chief Radioed to Firecom as well as his members with his report. The first due engine was requested on a rush. On arrival 5-12-1’s crew stretched a line and went to work with the help of crews from 5-12-4 and 5-12-3 who responded in as well. Chief Sunderman advised Fire police to close Montauk Highway on both ends of the scene to traffic while members were operating at the scene. The fire was able to be quickly knocked down and all members were back in service in under an hour. It is unknown as to what caused the fire as that information was not available.
