Uncontrolled Slash Fires Spread Across 14 Acres, Quickly Contained

Madawaska, ME - Madawaska Fire Department responded to multiple out-of-control slash pile fires that spread across approximately 14 acres.

Crews encountered 20–30 large piles burning with flames reaching up to 20 feet, along with additional fires across the road. Firefighters focused on containing high-risk areas to prevent further spread.

Operations were briefly interrupted as law enforcement addressed a safety issue involving the landowner. Once secured, crews resumed suppression efforts and brought the fires under control, with a fire watch maintained overnight.

No injuries were reported. Officials remind residents to burn responsibly and maintain control of permitted fires.
