As severe weather rolled across the area on June 9, firefighters from the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) responded to many storm-related situations throughout the city.
Firefighters were called to reports of debris falling from scaffolding at Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park at around 7:46 p.m., according to officials. Crews were informed of a person in the water nearby as they were working at the area. In order to safely rescue the person, members of Engine 224 swiftly made their way to the waterfront, lowered a firefighter into the water, and used portable ladders. Another bystander who had gone into the water to try to assist the victim was also helped by firefighters.
