West End Fire Company of Mahanoy City celebrates their 100th anniversary

On June 28th The West End Fire Company of Mahanoy City commemorated 100 years of service to the community with a parade & Mack party and a series of ceremonies honoring its history. Capping off a week long centennial celebration was a parade which featured 119 pieces of fire and emergency apparatus. Following the parade Company representaives were presented with citations and commendations from state and local legislators acknowledging their dedication and contributions to to public safety. Harvey Eckart, a Mack Fire apparatus historian, addressed the crowd giving the history of Mack Fire Apparatus. The company's prized vehicles, 1950 Mack L model pumper and a 1975 Mack CF pumper, played a special role in the day's events. They led the parade and and took part in a traditional housing ceremony where they were christened and pushed back into the fire house. Equipment was judged in 25 different categories. Trophies were awarded to the winners in each category.
