Gilsum, N.H. — June 13 — As part of a first-alarm mutual aid assignment for a reported brush fire, Engine 1 of the Gilsum Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad arrived in Marlow. The crew supported activities under the regional mutual aid system and helped local firemen put out fires. Because weather, topography, and dry vegetation can accelerate the spread of brush fires, a coordinated response is necessary.
In order to help bring crises under control in a safe and effective manner, mutual aid departments supply extra staff and equipment. The reaction demonstrated the close collaboration between nearby fire agencies and the value of regional cooperation in safeguarding communities during brush fire and wildfire situations.
