Greenport, NY – Greenport Rescue Squad, Inc. (GRS), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization providing emergency medical services in and around the City of Hudson and surrounding communities, is honored to announce a generous $25,000 grant from the HRBT Foundation. This funding will support the installation of state-of-the-art Wi-Fi onboard all eight of GRS’s ambulances, as well as its paramedic-equipped fly car.

This Wi-Fi system, installed and maintained by Cradlepoint, will provide the connectivity that modern EMS technology relies on to enhance patient care. As EMS has evolved, traditional radio communications have been replaced with app-based systems that allow EMTs and Paramedics to communicate directly with hospitals in real-time. This includes GPS-enabled updates, secure sharing of vital patient information, and even direct communication with physicians.

In a first-of-its-kind experience in the region, this connectivity will also be available—free of charge—to patients and their families’ onboard GRS ambulances. During what may be the most difficult and frightening moments in someone’s life, they will now be able to stay digitally connected with loved ones, easing anxiety and fear while awaiting critical updates. In today’s world, where digital connection is vital, this innovation underscores GRS’s commitment tocompassionate, patient-centered care.

Additionally, the upgraded connectivity will enable EMS teams to transmit ECG and 12-lead ECG data directly to hospitals, ensuring early notification of heart attack victims and expediting critical care. Furthermore, this grant will allow GRS to integrate with Columbia County 911’s new GPS-based ambulance tracking system, improving response efficiency and coordination.

GRS Executive Director Aidan S. O’Connor, Jr. expressed deep gratitude for this vital funding:

“We are incredibly thankful to the HRBT Foundation for their generosity. The advancements in EMS technology have outpaced our previous connectivity capabilities, particularly in rural communities where cellular coverage gaps existed. This grant ensures that we are operating at the highest level—with reliable connectivity that will undoubtedly improve patient outcomes, enhance the care we provide, and bring patients closer to their families when they need it most.”

Carl Florio, HRBT Foundation Board President, shared his thoughts:

“We are honored to support the Greenport Rescue Squad in their continued efforts to better protect and serve our community. The Foundation believes this contribution will have a direct, positive impact on their ability to respond more quickly and effectively to emergencies, and we’re proud to have a part in this endeavor.”

Greenport Rescue Squad, Inc. extends its sincere appreciation to the HRBT Foundation for its commitment to strengthening emergency medical services in our community. This investment in technology will ensure that our EMTs and Paramedics have the tools they need to provide the highest level of care—both clinically and emotionally.
