Canaan, NY - Emergency crews responded to Route 22 at Flints Crossing Road/Peaceful Valley Road for a serious motor vehicle collision involving a car and a semi-truck, prompting a large-scale multi-agency response.
Upon arrival, Canaan firefighters initiated vehicle extrication operations using hydraulic rescue tools to gain access to the driver’s side of the vehicle. Due to the severity of the injuries, additional resources were requested, including a mutual aid paramedic and a medical helicopter.
A landing zone was established nearby to facilitate air medical transport, and Route 22 was closed during helicopter operations. Multiple fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies operated on scene, including Canaan units, Chatham Rescue Squad, Red Rock Volunteer Fire Company, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police.
The coordinated response ensured rapid patient access, stabilization, and transport under challenging circumstances.
