Cape Coral, FL - The Cape Coral Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 2200 block of SW 12th Place, where a resident was safely assisted out of the home by a quick-thinking bystander prior to fire crews’ arrival.

According to officials, Adam Cannon was making a delivery nearby when he noticed smoke and heard calls for help. He immediately entered the situation and helped the resident safely exit the home.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire upon arrival. Despite resuscitation efforts, a dog and a cat inside the residence did not survive.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. In recognition of his actions, Cannon was presented with a Community Recognition Coin for his swift and selfless response, which officials said likely prevented a more serious outcome.
