This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Members of the Edgartown Fire Department responded to a reported house fire on Chappaquiddick Island at around two in the morning on June 11.

According to officials, the command set off a first alarm and asked for more help once the first firemen arrived and discovered a serious fire. Tanker trucks, personnel, and station coverage were provided by firefighters from the Oak Bluffs, Tisbury, and West Tisbury fire departments. The Chappaquiddick Ferry carried firefighters and equipment to Chappaquiddick.

The home was declared a total loss. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading into nearby wooded areas. A fire watch crew remained on scene following extinguishment to monitor for rekindles. All occupants escaped safely, and no injuries were reported.
