On avery hot sunny afternoon Hampstead Fire started getting calls for a strong smell off propane in the area of Dunkin Donuts on East Main st & Route 111 a shopping plaza.First due engine reported a valve was sheared off and product was blowing into the air. A car made a wrong turn into a parking lot and sheared off the vale on a 1000gl underground tank sending propane into the air. Command quickly requested more manpower. Several area fire department were requested to the scene to assist or cover the station. Crews were swapped out often due to high temperatures.
Because the propane company was not able to remove all the product in the tank they had to burn off the remaining product with took several hours.
