Hopkinton, NH — A large barn and several vehicles were destroyed in a three-alarm fire on Monday afternoon, April 21st. The fire also spread to ignite a large field and brush at the rear of the property.
At approximately 3:00 p.m., 911 calls were received reporting a shed on fire. The Hopkinton Fire Department, along with automatic mutual aid, was dispatched to 100 Chase Pond Road in a rural section of town.
Hopkinton Fire Chief Jeff Yale arrived to find a large, two-and-a-half-story barn-type structure fully involved, with embers sparking multiple brush fires. A second and third alarm were quickly called, bringing in numerous tankers to establish a rural water supply and multiple brush trucks to battle the fires.
The barn collapsed shortly after a water supply was established, as firefighters stretched multiple lines to protect a nearby farmhouse located across the driveway from the burning structure. Crews spent several hours containing the brush fires and extinguishing hot spots in the collapsed barn.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
