Cape Coral, FL - Cape Coral firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 2200 block of SW 12th Place, arriving to find the resident safely outside the home.

A nearby delivery driver noticed smoke and heard calls for help, quickly assisting the resident out prior to crews’ arrival.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, but despite resuscitation efforts, two pets inside the home did not survive.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The individual who assisted the resident was recognized with a Community Recognition Coin for his actions.
