Walnutport, PA- The Diamond Fire Company and neighboring fire companies were dispatched to a dwelling fire at 715 Williams Ave at 03:47 hrs on May 9th. Police on scene, confirmed a working fire to the 911 Center. As firefighters left the station several blocks away from the fire, they could see a header in the sky and immediately requested a second alarm. It was then learned that there was yet another fire in an adjoining one story rancher initializing a third alarm. This happened as companies were already inbound from Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties. During the fire, evacuation tones were sounded twice with one of the activations being for live ammunition that was going off in the back bedroom in 723 Williams Ave. The fires took several hours to control, six people had to be relocated which included two children. There were no injuries to residents or firefighters; however, a dog was ok but a cat had perished. Assisting the Walnutport firefighters were Slatington, Lehigh Township, Emerald, Slatedale, Friedens, Germansville, Neffs, Palmerton, Aquashicola, Lehighton, Northampton, Woodlawn and Catasauqua.
