Saturday evening North Port Fire Department was called to the area of Sultan Ave for a reported Wildfire. On arrival the fire was well established and moving quickly through the already dry fuels. Families were forced to evacuate as the fire came closer. This area was full of Hurricane Blown down which added to the extreme fire behavior. At one point the fire crossed a deep canal which separated Firefighting resources. Interstate 75 North bound was closed for hours as the fire came close, and smoke filled the roadway. No one was injured and homes only received minor damage. The fire was contained to 75 acers. Mutual Aid from Sarasota County Fire, Englewood Fire, Nokomis Fire and Florida State Forestry.
