Moriches, NY - On Friday evening, May 29th, just before 7:30 P.M., the Mastic Fire Department was activated for a report of a vehicle crash with a vehicle in the pond on Branes Road, off Montauk Highway.
Lieutenant Rudy Sunderman arrived to find a confirmed vehicle in the pond. Chiefs Gene Martucci and Rudy Sunderman also arrived shortly after with command being turned over to Chief Sunderman, who advised that he wanted Unit 8 to roll and to put members in the water.
Upon arrival of Marine Incident Response [5-12-8], 2nd Lt. Lasek and member John Garland were geared up in cold water rescue suits. They were able to confirm that the one person that was being treated by Mastic Ambulance was the only person in the vehicle, and no one was in the water.
Rescue 10 also arrived on scene and assisted with securing the scene on the Barnes Road side. The vehicle was pulled from the water and secured. All FD units took up within about 30 minutes.
