Car Fire Turns to Arson in Wallington

WALLINGTON, NJ — A vehicle fire brought Memorial Day to a dramatic close in Wallington on Monday, May 25, 2026.
Firefighters responded to Lincoln Place after reports of a car fire. Upon arrival, crews found a Ford Mustang fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control and extinguished the fire.
During the investigation, authorities determined that the vehicle had been intentionally set on fire. Investigators alleged that the owner’s ex-girlfriend ignited the vehicle and fled the scene before emergency responders arrived.
The Bergen County Arson Squad responded to assist with the investigation. The suspect was later apprehended and taken into custody. She was transported to the Bergen County Jail, where she is being held pending trial.
The investigation remains ongoing.
